Why does Insomnia happen?
Whilst there can be other factors involved, insomnia usually expresses itself as follows:
The cycle often begins with a past inability to sleep, caused by excessive worry, change in sleep patterns or other factors
Because the above pattern is kept going by anxiety about past, present and future sleep or general anxieties from day to day life, the most direct answer to dealing with it is dealing with that anxiety so that it no longer plagues your life. The cycle then stops, resulting in a good nights sleep.
This is then followed by a present anxiety that the inability to sleep will occur again and concerns about future consequences of lack of sleep
This results in increased effort to 'try' to get to sleep or get back to sleep, while worrying that you won't, which maintains a vicious cycle
